Information about LISTSERV and LISTSERV Maestro with regards to the Log4j vulnerabilities CVE-2021-44228 (Log4Shell) and CVE-2021-45046:

* LISTSERV does not use Log4j and is not affected by these vulnerabilities.

* LISTSERV Maestro 9.0 and older does not use Log4j and is not affected by these vulnerabilities.

* LISTSERV Maestro 10.0-1 to 10.0-3 use Log4j 2.12.1 and may therefore be vulnerable. We strongly recommend applying build 10.0-5 or later.

* LISTSERV Maestro 10.0-4 uses Log4j 2.15.0 and is therefore not vulnerable to CVE-2021-44228 (Log4Shell) but may still be vulnerable to CVE-2021-45046. We strongly recommend applying build 10.0-5 or later.

* LISTSERV Maestro 10.0-5 and later uses Log4j 2.16.0 and is not affected by these vulnerabilities.

LISTSERV 16.5-2018a, an updated version of L-Soft's email list management software, is now available to customers with valid maintenance and a License Activation Key (LAK) expiring on or after December 8, 2018.

The LISTSERV 16.5-2018a level set features an important DMARC fix as well as other improvements and enhancements.

This release is a "must have" upgrade for organizations that publish a DMARC record with "p=reject" or "p=quarantine". If your organization is making use of DMARC with LISTSERV, you should plan to upgrade immediately to the 16.5-2018a level set release.

* GDPR Reporting Tool *

With the EU GDPR going into effect May 25, 2018, L-Soft now offers a companion script to help customers with GDPR compliance. The script scans all list archives, changelogs and subscriptions, producing a report that lists every instance of an individual's personal data on the LISTSERV server. The web interface also allows for easy insertion of a per-list privacy policy on the list home page.

* SHA-2 Hashing *

All new LISTSERV password records and login tickets are now generated with 256-bit SHA-2 hashing and strong random-number generation (cryptographic RNG). The use of SHA-2 family hash functions is required for many organizations, including government agencies.

* HSTS Maximum Age *

The web interface can now enable HTTP Strict Transport Security, which specifies a period of time during which the user agent can only access the server in a secure fashion, enhancing security for any LISTSERV site that uses the HTTPS protocol.

* Faster Archive Searches *

LISTSERV 16.5 includes significant performance improvements for archive searches. With LISTSERV HPO, administrators can choose to preload the archives of specific lists into memory at the time of startup for even faster searches on very large lists.

* Faster Web Interface *

Customers with LISTSERV HPO licenses will experience performance improvements in the web interface as well, most notably when accessing lists with large archives or supporting a large number of concurrent users.

LISTSERV Maestro 6.0 Highlights:

* Improved Navigation: The LISTSERV Maestro explorer is a new hub where senders can find their dashboards, mail jobs, recipient lists and reports in an object tree for quick and easy access. The explorer comes with breadcrumb navigation, allowing users to keep track of their location at all times.

* Improved Content Editing: The HTML and message editor has been enhanced, with maximum space for editing the content and a sidebar for additional controls, for example to insert merge fields or drop-ins, or to change template colors on the fly. The editor also supports keyword highlighting, syntax coloring and auto-completion.

* Improved A/B-Split Testing: When sending A/B-split jobs with sampling, a new streamlined report displays the data for all variants, making it easy to pick the best performer with a single click, after which it's automatically delivered to the rest of the recipients. This selection can also be fully automated based on the metrics of your choice.

* Improved Social Media Reporting: The social media sharing report has been improved and a new publishing report has been added that allows senders to compare the success of different publishing channels, for example email compared to various social media platforms.

* Improved Tracking Reports: The tracking reports have been streamlined and the process for creating custom reports has been completely overhauled, allowing senders to easily evaluate the success of multiple jobs or compare the metrics of a specific job to the average.

LISTSERV 16.0-2014a Released

LISTSERV 16.0-2014a, an updated version of L-Soft's email list management software, is now available to customers with valid maintenance and a License Activation Key (LAK) expiring after April 23, 2014.

While there are a few bug fixes, the primary reason for this release is to address the so called "DMARC Debacle".

Email list owners and site administrators are still reeling after Yahoo, followed earlier this week by AOL, implemented aggressive DMARC policies that created giant headaches for all email list management software.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place with no advance warning, list owners and site administrators have had to resort to a variety of circumventions, from giving all Yahoo and AOL subscribers the boot to putting the list address in the "From" field, thus causing all private replies to be broadcast to the list without warning and inviting mail clients to submit out-of-office messages to the entire list.

The solution that L-Soft has developed for LISTSERV does not require anyone to make compromises or lose any functionality - not even the Yahoo and AOL subscribers. Once you install the update, everything works just like it did before. Incoming Yahoo and AOL addresses (and other domains that may adopt a similar DMARC Reject policy in the future) are automatically rewritten to local addresses that can receive private replies and forward them to the original poster. There are no configuration changes needed.

L-Soft has also tested LISTSERV 15.5 extensively under Windows 7 and has
encountered only minor problems. In particular, the setup program will
warn that this is not a supported operating system, but installation
will complete successfully if you choose to install. Customers upgrading
an existing LISTSERV 15.5 installation to Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2
may have to change ACLs to conform to the new application pool identity
feature of IIS 7.5.

LISTSERV Maestro 4.0, a new version of L-Soft's email marketing software, is now available to customers with valid maintenance and a License Activation Key (LAK) expiring after Feb 6, 2009.

LISTSERV Maestro 4.0 features:

Tracking Permission: LISTSERV Maestro offers a built-in way to obtain permission for personal tracking from recipients. This allows you to send a mailing to a mixed group of recipients and gather personal tracking information from those who have given permission and non-identifiable, unique tracking from those who haven't.

Action Tracking: The action tracking functionality extends the scope of the tracking, allowing you to monitor recipients' page visits and viral marketing activities occurring after they have read an email message and clicked on links to the target website.

Demographic Reporting: LISTSERV Maestro can create demographic reports about the subscribers in a data warehouse and define jobs and target groups based on these demographic segments.

Target Groups Based on Datasets: It is now possible to send a mailing to an entire recipient dataset, as long as those recipients are subscribed to at least one list, rather than having to send separate mailings to individual lists.

System Metrics: New system metrics continuously monitor disk usage, delivery statistics, HTTP request counts and response times, keeping you up-to-date on the status of the email communication system.

External Triggers: LISTSERV Maestro supports external triggers, which allows external processes to trigger recipient downloads, imports of new recipients or the delivery of jobs.

LISTSERV 14.5 introduces a new deliverability assessment tool, which

DomainKeys, SPF, Sender ID and other DNS tests.

DomainKeys Support

LISTSERV now supports DomainKeys, which is a cryptographic authentication
solution that adds signatures to email messages, allowing recipient sites

LISTSERV® 14.4 RELEASED

L-Soft is pleased to announce the release today of LISTSERV 14.4, the
latest version of our flagship email list management software.

In keeping with L-Soft's commitment to flexible and scalable solutions, the
new features of LISTSERV 14.4 are designed to make using, running and
maintaining LISTSERV smoother. Among numerous key upgrades is embedded mail-
merge, which enables any SMTP-compliant outbound mail server to perform
mail-merge using LISTSERV.
