It such a complicated process. Hmm.. you asked for a book.. but I'm going to give you a bit more. ;) Recommendations: 1a) Upgrade to Sendmail 8.10.0 if at all feasible - there's been a lot of fixes since 8.8.5 (which is over 3 years old now). A number of them are security fixes, and there's a lot of anti-spam features now. 8.10.1 is in very late beta-test, but is mostly minor bugfixes apart from a potentially nasty AIX-specific security problem I tripped over. 1b) If you aren't using a .mc file to generate your .cf files, start doing so - it makes life a *lot* simpler. The .mc file I use for our Listserv hub is only 41 lines long, and it's *very* heavily tweaked. 2) Get a copy of the O'Reilly book on Sendmail. Bryan Costales wrote it with a LOT of cooperation from the Sendmail crew (and incidentally, Bryan flushed out a *lot* of bugs when he tested *everything* he put in the book). 3) I've put a lot of how-to tuning info for Listserv and Sendmail on http://black-ice.cc.vt.edu/~valdis/sendmail.html - I do admit I've not updated it since Sendmail 8.9.1, and it *could* stand some editing for the 8.10-specific features. 4) Useful websites: a) www.sendmail.com - the commercial side of the fence b) www.sendmail.org - the Open Source side of the fence c) www.sendmail.net - recently started, a "friends of sendmail" site. 5) If none of these help, post to the comp.mail.sendmail newsgroup. I know for a fact that at least 3 or 4 of the developers make sure that all reasonable queries get answered, and I think I've seen almost everybody mentioned in the Sendmail 'RELEASE_NOTES' post there at least once in a while. 6) If you're *still* stuck, give me a yell and I'll see if I can figure out where steps 1-5 failed you. ;) Valdis Kletnieks Operating Systems Analyst Virginia Tech
