We have rewritten the signup and welcome messages for our list to be better complements to each other (one is administrative info and directions for sending commands, the other list policies and guidelines). We plan to throw out the standard signup text and replace it with our own. On reading the standard template it has a lot of LISTSERV "code" (.bb / .eb etc.) in it but as far as I can tell all that does is substitute the proper text for things like the list name and request address, change the message depending on the list defaults (e.g. for REVIEW), and various other similar things. Is there any harm (other than lack of portability to other lists) in getting rid of this and replacing it with something completely "hard- coded"? Thanks. ----- Tom Rawson [log in to unmask]
