I don't understand your question.  What is "an auto-responder
account?"  What, if anything, does it have to do with LISTSERV processing?

LISTSERV itself has implemented various error monitors and probes using
some heuristics.  Does your "A-R A" do the same?  By that I mean that
e-mail delivery has seldom been 100 % reliable -- what bounces today
might work just dandy tomorrow.
