We avoid attachments for one practical reason. It drives our digest members absolutely bonkers, not to mention our overseas subscribers who pay by the minute for dial-up downloads. As much fun as it would be to share pictures, it's just too much headache to administrate to allow attachments. Our method is to have the list members place their pics and other stuff on personal websites, then post the URL. This way, everyone is happy. We also ban HTML, BTW, since that too screws up the digest horribly, and makes a mess of overseas ISP's.
