The LISTSERV 14.4 DomainKeys update is now ready for beta-testing! This is an open beta, so anyone with 14.4 license and maintenance keys can download and install the update. For now, we have only prepared kits for Windows and Linux, but more kits can be made available if there is sufficient interest. The download URLs can be found in the little primer we wrote for this update: http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8e/LISTSERV-DKIM-config.html We are still debating whether or not to sign list postings by default. At the moment, list postings are not signed by default, and you have to use a "Misc-Options=" setting to change that. This is not necessarily the way it will be when we release the code. Personally, I think announcement lists should be signed by default, because announcement lists tend to have many subscribers and are more likely to trigger overly aggressive spam filters, and because the poster is invariably an employee or someone who is closely affiliated with the organization running LISTSERV. For discussion lists, on the other hand, you would end up signing a bunch of messages that originated outside of your organization and that, in most cases, were not authenticated in any way. I don't think they should be signed by default. Pragmatically, your average small-membership discussion list is unlikely to fall prey to the "shoot first, ask questions later" filtering that the big ISPs apply to high-volume sources. Ultimately, this is up to the list owner. One problem from LISTSERV's perspective is to identify announcement vs discussion lists. This is a grey distinction to begin with - there are all kinds of hybrid scenarios and special cases. And although you can safely assume that "Send= Public" denotes a discussion list and that "Send= Owner" will usually be an announcement list, many lists use "Send= Editor" or "Send= (list1),(list2)". In short, there is no sure way to tell. Anyway, I wanted to get this beta out before Christmas, since I know that this is when many of you are allowed to make tests :-) Enjoy! Eric
