*** LISTSERV 16.0 Beta Testing to Begin ***

By L-Soft Staff

L-Soft is ready to start LISTSERV 16.0 beta testing. The highlights of
LISTSERV 16.0 include a brand new newsletter template management
system, which allows customers to send HTML newsletters without
expert-level HTML skills. Newsletters can be created by simply clicking
on placeholders and filling in the content. Additional new features
include an integrated HTML editor, message draft capabilities, new
testing and content analysis features as well as UTF-8 support, which
facilitates lists and sites that operate in non-English languages and
rely on charsets other than ISO-8859-1.

*** Ask the Email List Guru: Pure Pop! People ***

Q. What are the most important priorities for email list communication
in 2009?

Answer by The Email List Guru

Thank you for this timely and important question. While not even the
Email List Guru can predict all that will emerge and evolve in the
coming year - especially in the challenging economic and email
environment we face - I can offer some recommendations on priorities
that make sense and can help ground and center the efforts of
hard-working email list communicators.

The priorities need to be rooted in three words - of wisdom, if you
will:

* Pure
* Pop!
* People

Yes, it's a curious combination of words but is not, in fact, a random
word association. All of these terms are interconnected, so allow me to
explain this in parts, yet as a whole concept.

*** LISTSERV Choice Awards Update ***

By L-Soft Staff

Less than a month remains in the 2008-09 LISTSERV Choice Awards, and
the levels of participation and enthusiasm have been strong. There is
an outstanding and diverse group of 10 nominated lists. L-Soft thanks
everyone who has submitted nominations and votes to date. At press
time, the three lists with the highest vote totals, in alphabetical
order, are ICORS, IWMF-TALK and WORLDWIDEWORDS.

*** Tech Tip: LISTSERV ***

Q: How can I keep statistics and do reporting on my LISTSERV list usage?

Answer by Liam Kelly
Senior Consulting Analyst, L-Soft

List owners commonly would like details on how their list usage has
changed over time. Do I have more subscribers than last year, or fewer?
When was the last posting for my list? What is my busiest month for
list traffic? Did the flame war on my discussion list last month cause
people to unsubscribe? Did adding a link on my main web page cause an
increase in new subscribers? Did new spam blocking result in mass
auto-deletions over the last six months?

LISTSERV's change-log feature is designed to answer exactly these sorts
of questions.

*** Tech Tip: LISTSERV Maestro ***

Q: How can I implement multiple independent groups of user accounts
with one central group for send authorizations?

Answer by Ben Parker
Chief Corporate Consultant, L-Soft

The desire is to implement multiple groups of user accounts in LISTSERV
Maestro so that each group represents a natural business unit or
section of the university campus community. Each group is on its own to
create new jobs, use templates, create drop-ins, define target groups,
etc. However, default team collaboration policies and final send
authorization for all user groups will rest with a central controlling
group. For this example, we will use the College of Business
Administration (CBA) as the business unit work group, and the Public
Relations office of the marketing group as the central controlling unit.
