Mari, I think we're in vehement agreement!

All these things are tools, and like many tools, some do require a little investment to learn how to use well.

Glad to hear you enjoy Gmail. Nothing is better than an Email program that

I agree 100% with your comments about AOL and use the AOL address because I
was one of their first subscribers and the address has identified me for
decades.  While it may "appear" that I'm using AOL, I don't use AOL at all .
. ever.   I do Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Roadrunner and all my other accounts
with my one and only trusted mail program and consider AOL the pits and rank
it in the same category as Yahoo and Gmail. :-)  It may "appear" that I'm
using AOL ... but I'm really not.  Don't like Email programs that get their
claws in you and won't let go.  Pretty soon the tail can begin to wag the
dog.

Different strokes for different folks, as the man kissed the cow. :-)

Very interesting.

Gmail doesn't work like traditional email clients, and some people don't
like the way it works. That's OK, there are many other choices. I happen to
love it. Once in a while they'll make an interface change that I don't care
for, but an extension or lab product will change it back if it is
sufficiently troublesome.

One can also use a machine based client (Thunderbird, for example, almost
certainly others) to access one's Gmail account as an IMAP account.

I haven't gone searching for another solution because Gmail does so well for
me, but as far as I know, Gmail is the only one that lets me put a single
thread or email into multiple 'folders' (Labels in Gmail) That alone puts
Gmail at the top for me.

I've been using Gmail since its early beta days, when you had to get an
invitation to get a Gmail subscription. In June it will be 10 years for me.

I find it suits my needs perfectly.

On our lists, it is generally the AOL subscribers that are the most
technically incompetent, troublesome, spam reporting, and all round nuisance
They don't tend to be the one that get their accounts hacked.

We do have a few AOL subscribers that have been using AOL since the days of
dialup, and don't want to get rid of that address. In general, they're fine.

It is the Yahoo users that (again, generally) get their accounts hacked.

I'm so glad to hear at least one other person speak negatively of GMail.
Our lists are full of Gmail subscribers and I keep my opinions about it to
myself. I believe it's one of those phenomena that becomes a fad or "in"
and, therefore, makes non-technical people feel technically astute. I have
accounts just about everywhere and for almost 20 years have only one
mail program I use for all of them and couldn't do my job efficiently
without
it. So I just let everyone do his thing and I do mine ... and that works for
me!

And don't even get me started on Yahoo. :-/

I've been using a little known email called MyWay for many many years.
It's never been hacked, and gets an extremely small amount of spam.
Very happy with it.
I just recently created a gMail account for a work project, and with all
due respect
I think it is awful. Doesn't seem like something you would expect from
Google IMHO.

On lists that I operate, I've seen more Yahoo mail user accounts
compromised than any other.
Frequently we set yahoo.com subscribers to REVIEW. Generally, we (my
co-owners) suggest Gmail. I've
experienced very few problems with that system (other than what has been
documented on-list about
"missing" messages sent by poster).

I also recommend it to those folks who use ISP email addresses. They can
migrate to it
e.g.,[log in to unmask] while weaning themselves (others) of the old address.
Or they can use both
addresses with some services.

[Why would I recommend that? Don't ask, just do and experience it. :-) ]
