Very interesting.

Gmail doesn't work like traditional email clients, and some people don't like the way it works. That's OK, there are many other choices. I happen to love it. Once in a while they'll make an interface change that I don't care for, but an extension or lab product will change it back if it is sufficiently troublesome.

One can also use a machine based client (Thunderbird, for example, almost certainly others) to access one's Gmail account as an IMAP account.

I haven't gone searching for another solution because Gmail does so well for me, but as far as I know, Gmail is the only one that lets me put a single thread or email into multiple 'folders' (Labels in Gmail) That alone puts Gmail at the top for me.

I've been using Gmail since its early beta days, when you had to get an invitation to get a Gmail subscription. In June it will be 10 years for me.

I find it suits my needs perfectly.

On our lists, it is generally the AOL subscribers that are the most technically incompetent, troublesome, spam reporting, and all round nuisance. They don't tend to be the one that get their accounts hacked.

We do have a few AOL subscribers that have been using AOL since the days of dialup, and don't want to get rid of that address. In general, they're fine.

It is the Yahoo users that (again, generally) get their accounts hacked.
