I think I misread your post and provided a way to delete subscribers, not list owners. Pete's solution works well for our organization but there are potential drawbacks depending on your system/list configuration. Some functions and custom scripts, e.g., do not seem to work well with an indirect reference to List Owner. We've found success by ensuring that the first-listed Owner is an email address, not a pointer to another list.
