The problem isn't just potential.  ;-)

We had added "Mail-Merge: yes" on a recently-created list, and discovered this problem for ourselves (when trying to figure out why several people were mysteriously unsubscribed).  So we "solved" the issue by taking Mail-Merge back out, which means subscribers get the more generic cookieless unsubscribe link, such as the one which I've left, quoted, below.  (The other way would have been editing the bottom banner, of course).

It appeared from the logs that the folks who were unsubscribed this way didn't get notified (though the owner did). Not sure if that should be considered a bug or not.

Ben has created an excellent Listserv Tip: "How can I add a custom bottom banner to all of the messages posted to a list?"    Thank you!

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but it seems there is a potential problem with having a default one-click unsubscribe in new lists:

For discussion lists, it appears that if I reply to a list email and include the original distribution, *my* one-click unsubscribe link will be shown followed by the recipient's one-click unsubscribe link.    That (those) recipient(s) might click *my* unsubscribe link and poof, I'm gone!   One might say I should have edited my reply, but my mail client may not allow it or I might simply forget or not expect the action.

As I know of no way to distinguish between an announcement list or a discussion list at list creation time or message distribution time,   how is it that announcement list functionality trumped discussion list (bad) surprise factor?

The same sort of problem occurs on an announcement list where I share, separately from Listserv, a wonderful distribution with someone ... one of my recipients may see my email, not think it so wonderful,  and unsubscribe me.

Has anyone addressed this problem (if it is a problem or a resolvable problem)?

Thanks and c
