LSTOWN-L readers,

Thanks to Michael Shannon, who replied informatively, "If the list header has Notify=No then the Owner is not notified of unsubscribes."

Ah yes, but the subscriber first has to get the list header set to Notify=No.  And since the subscriber is unlikely to have editing privileges, that would require asking the list owner to make the adjustment.  An activity hardly compatible with sneaking out unnoticed!

LSTOWN-L readers,

Thanks to Pete Weiss for testing this out with:

QUIET is ignored and the command is processed as a normal UNSUB.

So, a subscriber cannot "sneak out" of a list without the listowner knowing!  A list owner, on the other hand, can remove a subscriber without them knowing.  Interesting! - Ian

Sincerely - Ian
