Phil, regardless of whether you create a new RFC2001 that replaces RFC822 or a RFC2010 that expands it, just because the standard was registered does NOT force mailers to comply to it. Only those mailers that pretend to support these new RFCs will be committed to support it FULLY and UNAMBIGUOUSLY. Those which prefer to keep supporting RFC733 will be free to do so. But it's easier to try to persuade people to improve their mailers when you have a RFC at hand than when you're only talking about st*nking extensions required for brain-damaged IBM software to coexist with normal mailers written as God meant mailers to be written :-) Eric
