Well the  user is  going to get  mail from the  list that  says '.BITNET'
anyway (probably %-hacked). The list archives will say '.BITNET', and the
informational  messages  he will  get  say  '.BITNET'. Somehow  it  seems
difficult to me  to shield the user from exposure  to "illegal" '.BITNET'
addresses. I don't  think the header of an administrative  message is the
worst case of such exposure, unless the list shows very little activity.
