Well, here's the story on what happend to Natalie Maynor's list mail. This week, I decided to install a second SMTP server in improve mail thru-put here at UGA. Installing the server was a piece of cake. Getting LMAIL to use it wasn't so easy. I have been using John Voigts DOMAIN EXEC to re-write the DOMAIN NAMES file to replace "INTERBIT SMTP" with "UGA SMTP" for several years now to use the local gateway instead of sending all my internet traffic somewhere else. Well, the right answer appeared to be to write a LSM$DNT EXEC exit for LMAIL to allow me to specify s=smtp, smtpl as I re-write each INTERBIT tag to UGA. So, I got a copy of the base exec from Eric, and fixed it up for my needs. I realizied that I needed the original, unmodified DOMAIN NAMES file, so I put it back up. I then reloaded LMAIL and had him re-build the DOMAIN TABLE. Looked at it, and everything was just fine. LMAIL was now using both SMTP machines, and all was right in the world. Wednesday, I was off checking for damage on my sailboat after the big storm last weekend (nothing worth talking about, although many boats in the marina were destroyed by huricane force winds.) When I got back I saw Natalie's message about her mail going via PUCC. I didn't think anything of it at first, but the more I puzzled over what was happening, the more I decided something was wrong. Seems like LISTSERV was now looking at the unmodified DOMAIN NAMES file and was sending mail for .edu via INTERBIT. Oops... I then coded up a second exit (LSV$DMT EXEC) for listserv to replace all occurrences of "INTERBIT SMTP" with "UGA MAILER" and now everything seems to be back to normal. Hope these ramblings will help prevent anyone else from stepping in this particular mess. Harold
