Quoting Carl Reimann: > > Why is it that some people have "never logged in", something evident > when you finger them? How can I receive a subscription request from > someone who has never logged into their own account? > One possibility is that the person's host is really a cluster of machines. For example, one of my email addresses is [log in to unmask] Actually, there is no machine that corresponds to this address - just a bunch of DECs called beauty.magnus..., top.magnus....., bottom.magnus... etc. When I log in, I don't control which machine I am connected to and it doesn't make any difference anyway as all machines share resources. Theoretically, if you fingered magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu and got a 'never logged in' message, it could be that I had never been connected to that particular box. There are other possibilities, however, like the system being taken down and rebooted between the subscription request and your 'finger' command. Then, of course, there are the metaphysical explanations.... +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ +-+ John Arnfield +-+ Department of Geography +-+ +-+ BITNET/EARN: AJA+@OHSTMAIL +-+ The Ohio State University +-+ +-+ Internet: [log in to unmask] +-+ Columbus, OH 43210-1361 +-+ +-+ Telephone: +1 614 292 7954 +-+ USA +-+ +-+ Fax: +1 614 292 6213 +-+ +-+ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
