I have not had the experience where it attempts delivery LONGER THAN
it said it is going to. Nevertheless, some do say they will attempt
to delivery more than 7 days. They are quite annoying. Usually
it is some MX host that is gatewaying the message for final delivery.
(I spelled it correctly this time ;-))

On one list that I co-operate, I am a fascist list-owner when it
comes to bounces: I both set the userid to NOMAIL, and try to
notify a cognizant sysadmin either at the institution or knows
how to contact someone there e.g., I make use of postmaster
accounts, higher level domain, SOA records from the DNS, NIC
WHOIS technical info, related authoritative hostmasters (usually
in that order but depending upon circumstance).

On the Internet, everyday is "trick or treat" ;-)
