This works just like a FTP site, ie you can store the file in whatever format you want, and if the recipient has the right software, he can decode it. On VM you can also have LISTSERV compress the file when you PUT it and decompress it when a GET is done, but this feature was mostly introduced to support the native VM compression built in to the COPY command and to the system editor (since people may want to have files in public directories stored in that format, and then have LISTSERV make these available via e-mail). This is not a very good compression format for text files. Eric
