If the original digest contained "data" that confused the
Mail Transfer Agent, then retrieving the archives might have
the exact same effect.  I've seen this occur when an embedded
RFC821/2 end-of-message indicate appears (a period in the first
column followed by all white-space).

Here is a SEARCH job when sent to the LISTSERV would retrieve
up to 3k lines of Melvin Klassen's postings to LSTOWN-L.
