I suspect those lists are either not running LISTSERV(R) :-), or an
old version.
 
I run three LISTSERV(R) lists and belong to several others. Both Majordomo
and ListProc lists frequently send various commands to subscribers; all of
these kinds of goofs end up as LIST-Request messages in my mail.  In fact,
the other day I wrote a housekeeping message to one of my lists and
accidentally used a command in the first line. Even that message was
rejected until I reworded the post.
