I'm not well versed in RFC's so the answer is not clear to me. A recent problem
of mine was a subscriber who has a field "Sender:" set incorrectly.  He could
not post as he was seen as unsubscribed even though his "From:" field was set
correctly.

Would someone please explain the relative order which the header fields are
handled by LISTSERV or point me to a reference.

The From: field is used to determine if they are the valid user in
question.   Some commands require an OK response which will be sent by
LISTSERV to that address.
