Super-lists and sub-lists can be used in other ways, as well, not just to eliminate multiple copies of messages for subscribers on multiple lists. Each semester, we create hundreds of lists, each associated with a specific course/section being offered, owned by the instructor, and populated with enrolled students. These lists are automatically updated nightly, to reflect drop/add changes. A super-list is created when an instructor wants to combine multiple classes in a single list, or when there are cross-listed courses. The super-list has its own archive and sub-list subscribers are granted access to the archives. If the list is to be used as a forum for discussion, the super-list is configured to accept postings from sub-list subscribers. At least one department has a super-list which includes all lists for all courses offered by the department, in order to provide them with the ability to reach all students in all classes. pdr * ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * Paul D.
