Yes they can get off the list. All they have to do is go to this website: http://www.onelist.com/ Then they click on "User Center" in the deep blue strip on the left margin. You have to register: enter your email address, and then a password, and you're registered. It will want to set a cookie. LET IT. If your email is configured NOT to accept cookies, then reconfigure it just to do this, and put it back the way you want afterwards. Once you're in, you'll be at the User Center. It will list the email discussion lists you are on (I am on several and I run three) -- Next to the name of the discussion list they've been unwillingly signed up for will be several options: Digest, Get mail, and Unsubscribe. click on unsubscribe. You'll go to a page that asks "Do you really want to unsubscribe? Click "yes". voila! It's done. Yes, they strongly disapprove of your registering people on masse like that. You're supposed to send them a request to join that requires they respond before they are admitted to the list. If they want to they respond with a yes; if they don't respond, then they don't get put on the list. I have used the other method when I knew who wanted to be on the list (and when I have had posters who get spooked when asked to set a cookie.) There is technically a discussion list for listowners of onelist lists but I've never seen a message from it. Hard to resist a free list. I'm just waiting for it to go the geocities way -- camel in the tent -- one ad here, another ad there, eventually you'll open your email and a pop-up will be advertising something. <g> But maybe not. In the meantime, it's awfully convenient.
