I thought it was pretty funny that this post came to this list, too. There are a couple of reasons I haven't seen mentioned why listowners see so many unsub messages -- one is that so many people (like me) subscribe to many different lists, which often have very different address conventions and are run by different software -- listproc, majordomo, maiser, etc. So they simply can't keep them all straight, and asking other human beings for help is a whole lot simpler than clawing your way back through 20 Megs of files and messages looking for the intro message for listown-l. More common, even, is the situation where the subscriber's address has changed without her knowledge, and unsub messages are bounced with the news that she's not subscribed. Recent versions of listserv are much better about explaining this, but even so, many people, after having experiences like this a few times, just holler for the list owner.
