I still find BY COUNTRY useful. AUTOCAT has subscribers from 46 identified countries, most of whom subscribe from educational institutions and other organizations, not commercial ISPs. While the breakdown is not perfect (e.g., all employees of the WorldBank have the domain WORLDBANK.ORG regardless of where in the world they are located) it still helps give me a sense of the geographic distribution of subscribers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Judith Hopkins, Listowner of Autocat [log in to unmask] AND [log in to unmask] My home page: http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~ulcjh AUTOCAT home page: http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/cts/autocat/ On Mon, 11 Oct 1999, Rich Greenberg wrote: > On Oct 11, 7:53am, Pete Weiss wrote: > > } My counter -suggestion is that the (BY COUNTRY option be "retired" -- it > } no longer serves any useful purpose since country of subscriber origin is > } masked by ISPs. > > My suggestion would be to make it "(BY TLD" (top level domain). > > BY COUNTRY assumes that ".com", ".org", ".net" & ".edu" are all USA > which is no longer true. > > -- > Rich Greenberg Work: Rich.Greenberg atsign worldspan.com +1 770-563-6656 > N6LRT Marietta, GA, USA Play: richgr atsign netcom.com +1 770-321-6507 > Eastern time zone.
