If you are doing bulk-adds by email, set it up as a job, rather than as a series of independent commands. With LISTSERV 1.8d (perhaps with some earlier versions, as well) the list owner does not need to specify the subscriber name when adding a subscriber to the list. In the template below, replace "LISTNAME" with the name of your list, replace "XXXXXXXX" with your personal LISTSERV password (1.8c or later) or the list password (1.8b or earlier), and replace the bogus addresses with your subscriber addresses. If your email software appends a signature file to outbound messages, be sure to disable that feature when sending a message to a LISTSERV server. ----- begin job template ----- QUIET ADD LISTNAME DD=X IMPORT PW=XXXXXXXX //X DD * [log in to unmask] * [log in to unmask] * [log in to unmask] * /* ----- end job template ----- If your list is hosted at a site running LISTSERV 1.8c or later, and if the LISTSERV web interface is installed and running, you should be able to do bulk-adds from the list management web page. Generally, the URL for the list management web page will be in the form: http://host.domain.tld/cgi-bin/wa?LMGT1=listname where "host.domain.tld" is the LISTSERV host name and "listname" is the name of your list. You will need to register your address and set a personal LISTSERV password before you can use list management web page. You can find all this - and more - information in the QuickStart Guide for New List Owners <http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8d/qs/qs.html>. -- Paul Russell Senior Systems Administrator University of Notre Dame email: [log in to unmask]
