I've checked the archives for a solution to this problem, but I can't seem to find an answer. I'm fairly new to LISTSERV as well, so any help would be appreciated. The Dept. of HUD wants to set up mailing lists so that they will be used as "announce-only" lists to disseminate newsletters to non-HUD employees. The owners of the lists will, however, be HUD employees. I used the web interface to create an "announce-only" list header for each list and set the owner of the list to be a HUD employee: * Subscription= Open,Confirm * Validate= Yes,Confirm * Review= Owners * Send= Editor,Confirm * Reply-To= Sender,Ignore * Sender= None * Errors-To= Owner * Auto-Delete= Yes,Full-Auto,Probe(10) * Notebook= Yes,/home1/archives/test-l,Monthly,Private * Owner= [log in to unmask] * Editor= [log in to unmask] * Filter= Also,Allow,[log in to unmask] Notice the last line that I added to make sure that the owner could post and subscribe himself. Do I need to do this? I've set up the go.user file (Unix-based system) to include the FILTER_ALSO control variable as follows: FILTER_ALSO="*@HUD.GOV" so that I can prevent HUD employees from posting and subscribing to all lists. However, when the owner posts a message, a problem occurs during the confirmation process as follows. The owner does not receive any response and the subscribers do not receive the posting. Instead, the Site Maintainer (me) gets a message as follows. What does "mail origin seems to be a mailer" mean and who is the "mailer"? This process works if I remove the filters in both the header and the "go.user" file. [Also notice that the original posting gets through, but the "OK" confirmation does not.] The enclosed message, found in the LISTSERV mailbox and shown under the spool ID 0148 in the system log, has been identified as a possible delivery error notice for the following reason: mail origin seems to be a mailer. ------------------------ Message in error (458 lines) ------------------------- Received: from hudgate.hud.gov (mailhost [198.200.153.4]) by hudlist.hud.gov (8.8.8+Sun/8.8.8) with ESMTP id TAA00298 for <[log in to unmask]>; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 19:24:16 -0400 (EDT) Received: from nthhqsmtp2.hud.gov (nthhqsmtp2.hud.gov [170.97.5.29]) by hudgate.hud.gov (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id TAA24278 for <[log in to unmask]>; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 19:24:38 -0400 (EDT) Received: by nthhqsmtp2.hud.gov(Lotus SMTP MTA v4.6.2 (693.3 8-11-1998)) id 85256817.007CAEEA ; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 18:41:52 -0400 X-Lotus-FromDomain: HUD@MTA From: "Owner1" <[log in to unmask]> To: "L-Soft list server at HUDLIST.HUD.GOV (1.8d)" <[log in to unmask]> Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 15:26:35 -0700 Subject: Re: TEST-L: confirmation required (B03188BB) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Length: 15944 ok "L-Soft list server at HUDLIST.HUD.GOV (1.8d)" <[log in to unmask]> on 10/27/99 06:35:07 PM To: [log in to unmask] cc: Subject: TEST-L: confirmation required (B03188BB) The TEST-L list has been configured to request explicit confirmation of all messages posted to the list, for security reasons.
