Because Barracuda is not operating according to long-established Internet mail standards? You can't blame a LISTSERV component for failing to accept a particular command when the standard says that if the command fails, the originating server needs to back down to a less-advanced command. If Barracuda issues EHLO and then hangs up when SMTPL says "I don't understand you" instead of falling back to HELO, that's Barracuda's fault, not SMTPL's.
