There is one point that needs to be made for the benefit of "newbie" list owners.
The boilerplate on the Daily Error Monitoring Report refers to "subscribers",
however, not all addresses on the DEMR are subscriber(-related) addresses.
An address on the DEMR may be an owner address, if an administrative message was
undeliverable because an owner address is invalid.
An address on the DEMR may be an editor address, if a posting approval request
was undeliverable because an editor address is invalid.
An address on the DEMR may be the sender address on a message sent to a
list-related address, if that message resulted in a reply from the server, but
the server reply was undeliverable. Example: spam with a bogus sender address is
sent to the listname-request address; the server sends a confirmation request to
the sender address, but the confirmation request is undeliverable because the
address is bogus; the bogus sender address is added to the DEMR, but you will
not find it anywhere in the subscriber list or list configuration.
I modified the site-wide template for the DEMR to put the following text at the
top of the DEMR:
--- begin ---
NOTE 1: When an address is added to this report, it remains on this
report for 5 days, even if the problem is corrected.
NOTE 2: Addresses on this report may be subscriber addresses, owner
addresses, editor addresses, or sender addresses on messages which were
sent to addresses associated with the &LISTNAME list.
--- end ---
The first note pretty much eliminated questions from list owners who wondered
why an address was still on the report, even though they had "fixed" the problem.
The second note pretty much eliminated questions from list owners who were
unable to match a DEMR address with a subscriber address.
