I was able to mail from VM/CMS with the following
syntax: [log in to unmask] (and
appeared to be delivered via SMTP to CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU,
then to Bitnet CCNY and finally "bounce" back.
 
Is your line delimiter a per cent sign?  (Mine is not.)
 
Perhaps if you provided the actually error message?
