We have a RTF to ASCII converter that does a much better job than
"save as ASCII" although it is far from perfect (it is also possible that
MS improved "save as ASCII" since 2.0).

I prefer plain ASCII for online searches but when printing you get
minimal tree impact and maximal legibility with a proportional font.
