Dear listowners,
I want to add a special welcome to my list as well as other files.I have
asked for help by private mail from one of you.The person(who I won't name
as he has been exceedingly kind and do not want him to get a flood of
personal requests for help)has got me started on the right track. However,I
still need explicit instructions and am hoping that one of you has the
patience to walk me through the process.

Here's what I have done so far:
oI have read "LSVOWNER CMSFILEL" as my list is run on vm.
oI have also read LISTSERV REFCARD and PRIVILEGED COMMANDS FOR LIST OWNERS.
oI have searched the LSTOWN-L archives for 1994 and retrieved and read all
postings related to welcome messages and adding files.
oI have asked the postmaster here to create a filelist and fileid for
me,which has been done(see below X2).FYI:the postmaster is new at the job
and is in learning mode too.

Questions:Please help--my brain is starting to turn to mush! :-)
(1)Is there more for the postmaster to do?
(2)Assuming that I have typed two files (called MEDLAB-L WELCOME and
SELECTED MEDICAL RESOURCES),how do I get them onto the server and available
to subscribers? I want the special welcome to be sent automatically,in
addition to the existing one.
(3)Specifically,is there something else I need to do first? What does
"modify the filelist to add new files"mean? Apparently I am to do this
before sending the actual files.
(4)When I send the command"Put MEDLAB-L WELCOME MEDLAB-L PW=XXXXXXXX"
to the listserv, what goes on successive lines? The title of the file and
then the text of the file?

Here is the gist of postmaster's message to me:

The files
MEDLAB-L FILEID
MEDLAB-L FILELIST

have been created. They are ready for you to test them.
There is no password.Don't use the personal password.
Also, I changed Files=yes.

Here is an abbreviated version of the filelist(resulting from a "get
MEDLAB-L filelist" command):
