The Center for Spoken Language Understanding at the Oregon Graduate
Institute is collecting a database of telephone speech from native
speakers of 22 different languages. The data will be distributed free
of charge to research laboratories worldwide for research in speech
recognition and automatic language identification. The goal of this
research is to collect enough speech samples to study language
differences and to train computers to identify languages
automatically.
Hungarian is one of the 22 languages we are collecting. If you are a
native speaker of a different language, please see the list of
languages and phone numbers below. If you are a native speaker of
Hungarian and would like to participate in this study there is a TOLL
FREE number that you can call from anywhere within the continental
United States. This is a free call. When you call the 1-800 number
you will be asked a series of questions, and will be given time to
respond in Hungarian. We will record the answers to each question.
The identity of each caller will be kept confidential.
The Center For Spoken Language Understanding is funded by research
grants from several government agencies and by contributions from
industry. The Oregon Graduate Institute is a not-for-profit academic
institution.
Each Hungarian caller is offered the chance to be entered in to a
drawing for 1,000 dollars. After the data collection is completed, we
will randomly select one caller to win this cash prize. Entry into
this drawing is VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. Some restrictions
apply. Official rules may be obtained upon request.
