      In general, no.   First of all they are usually large, which
means they take a lot of time to download before the receiver realizes
they are of no interest.   Second, not everyone can even see them as
we do not all have the same computers and software and net access.
Some readers can filter out attachments.  Others cannot.
   It is always safer and better to send text-only files which
everyone can read, and if possible post a warning that the file is
long. That way readers with a 'header-summary' option can decide for
themselves right away whether to delete the file.
