If you just want to put back a copy of the actual list of subscriptions, you
DO NOT need to use LSVPUT. Include the list's password at the top of the
LIST file on the line that says PUT list PW=. If you are attempting to put a
file or a list of files back on your listserv, you then need to use LSVPUT.
If you are also attempting to replace a filelist on Listserv with an updated
filelist file, you first need to GET the file first with the (CTL option.
For instance, my list is called HELP-NET and has an ongoing converstation on
networking and it has lots of archived files which I urge you to read.

If, for example, I wanted to change an option in HELP-NET's header, I would
type TELL LISTSERV GET HELP-NET. I would then receive the file from my
reader and make the changes, including typing in the password on the first
line of the file. I would then use the SENDFILE command to place it back on
HELP-NET. I would not have to use LSVPUT at all.

If for example, I wanted to add a new file to HELP-NET's filelist, I would
first have to type TELL LISTSERV GET HELP-NET FILELIST (CTL. I would then
receive the file and add a line to this filelist file to mention the new
file. I would then type LSVPUT HELP-NET FILELIST (PUT to put the updated
filelist back on my local Listserv. I would then wait for confirmation from
Listserv that the filelist file was accepted. Upon receipt of the
confirmation, I would type LSVPUT filename filetype filemode (PUT. This will
put the new file on Listserv under HELP-NET's filelist. This is all
explained in detail on one of HELP-NET's files which you should read.

By the way, you cannot put a file on a Listserv without first obtaining
authorization from that Listserv's Postmaster. The Postmaster must set up a
template for your list's filelist before you can put files there. If you
have any further problems and cannot glean any information from the HELP-NET
files to which I referred you, perhaps you should set up a meeting with your
Listserv's Postmaster who can explain this process to you in detail because
LSVPUT definitely does work fine.
