Interesting information, but *NOT* the answer to John's problem.  :-)
 
This time, John's problem is *NOT* that the ID can't be added by LISTSERV,
but that the subsequent "welcome-to-the-list" message generated by LISTSERV
can't be delivered to the new subscriber.
 
Follow the normal procedures for contacting the "postmaster" at the target
site, and determine what the error message ("possible alias loop") really
means, and what E-mail address should be used for the new subscriber.
