Our default subscription option is NOMAIL. Subscribers are told this in
three separate messages (in a personal message from the subscribing
listowner, one in the Welcome message, and in the FAQ they are requested
in the Welcome message to download). They are given a link to a support
site that makes setting subscription options painfully easy, as well as
the listserv command if they prefer to do it by email. It is also
mentioned in the Probe message, which goes out every three weeks (If you
have recently subscribed and have not yet received list mail...).

Most subscribers figure it out, but there are a few who write back weeks
or months later asking why they haven't received any mail.
