I'm a new member of this list and I'm looking for resources that you might
be able to provide. If somthing like this has already been asked, please
direct me to the archive.

I'm a member of a email list service (not LISTSERV) with about 250
subscribers, mostly all pediatrcians in a particular subspeciality field.
Our subcribers are primarily in the US with many of our members located
around the world. Though our physician subscribers are all excellent docs,
many do not have the interest or inclination to understand the workings of
their computer, email service, or the like.

We use this email list service to ask advice form other specialists in the
field about particularly troublesome symptoms, diseases, treatments,
findings, etc. All medical and all very technical.

For years we have used our current service provider at a university using
only the text email features. For whatever legitimate or non legitimate
reasons, this email list service provider is not allowing us to send
attachments along with our email. With the proliferation of digital
scanners and photography we would like to send ,jpeg or similar format
pictures to our members for them to see and understand more precisly some
of the disease symptoms that a member may be describing ie strange rashes,
bumps, swollen areas, etc which are hard, inaccurate, and often time
intensive to write with text. From other correspondance with L-Soft, I
have found out the LISTSERV can easily handle attachments with email.

Most of our subscriber members are located at presigious university medical
schools, but as I said they are not the most computer savvy. I'll say
.jpeg and their eyes glaze over!!!

We are considering moving out email list service to another university.
What I'm looking for is a member of this group to give me a lead to
preferrably a large university with medical school that offers LISTSERV (or
maybe some other emailer) that will allow the use of attachments to flow
through their servers. More than likely, one of our subscribers is a
faculty member there but have no idea who or what to ask.

Short of this, we may consider moving the hosting of our list service to a
commercial site. Can anyone offer me leads and insights here.

As you can image, our members have many types of hardware and software both
new and old. We are considering posting the images onto a separate web
location with an embedded URL link in the email but this solution may prove
more troublesome.

Do any of you have experiences and caveats to share?

Thanks,
Phil Roettcher
