I see... Originally, .US had to be created for X.400 addresses because of
the mapping  rules that say  the top-level domain  has to be  the country
code (much like, in the UK, .GB  was created for X.400 addresses in spite
of its political incorrectness :-) ).  I'm just glad this isn't replacing
the old .COM et al!
