Couldn't you cut down on spamming with subscription by owner -
require the person to tell a little about himself, etc.?

For the subscribers to not be able to find out who else is on the
list could be injurious. For example, say that I am on an ecology
list. I work for a park and my boss is implementing a practice which
I think could be harmful. Say that I have doubts about my boss's
integrity anyway. I come home from work and post a question to
the ecology list. Assume that my question even has a "tone" to it.
My boss, unknown to me, is also on the list. He sees my post and my
name and gets very irritated. His attitude toward me changes, my
evaluations suffer, etc.

Had I had the "review" option, however, I would have known my boss
was on the list and would not have posted the offending question.

It seems to me that removing the "right" to know to whom you are
speaking for the sake of out-maneuvering spammers . . . Well,
spammers are an annoyance, a bother, a pain. Not knowing to whom
you are speaking could have serious ramifications.

                                     Just my 2 cents,
