Thanks for all the help figuring out the JANET/BITNET gateway problem.
I also tried PINGing the host with no response, but I thought that
might have been because of the short time-out time and the distance
between hosts.
 
The Postmaster at UKACRL said that node was not listed in the JANET
directory although it DOES exist.  He's going to forward the bounced
mesage to the node-owner and encourage him to list the site.
