According to the List Owners and Site Manager's Manuals, Appendix B
the default setting for auto-delete is:

Auto-Delete= No if "Validate= Yes", Yes,Semi-Auto,Delay(4),Max(100) otherwise

If you observed different behavior from this, and you were using a 1.8d Beta, it
is possible there was an anomaly in your version.  Several changes were made to
the auto-delete functions at various times in the development process.  The only
useful test nowadays is on the final production release version.  If your site
has not upgraded, they should do so.
