Domain hostname alias registration has been available since LISTSERV 1.8d
and still is. My point is that in the absence of special instructions or
configurations neither LISTSERV nor any other program should reasonably
assume the above 2 addresses are duplicate addresses going to the same
person. Yes, LISTSERV can treat them the same, but only after it has been
given special instructions telling it to do so. The proviso with that, in
LISTSERV, is that only the domain hostname can be aliased. The userID or
local part (left of @) must still be identical (except the new feature will
allow you to select non-case-sensitive comparison) if duplicates are to be
detected.

So, even with a proper hostname alias configuration, LISTSERV will still
not consider

as equivalent addresses for the purpose of duplicate checking and there is
presently no reasonable way to make LISTSERV do so.
