My dear Song Weaver (sighed the undersigned wearily), I co-own the list
Rob is talking about, and I can assure you that we've tried to educate
our subscribers on the ins and outs of listserv (tm) and listserv (tm)
commands.  The letter automagically sent to new subscribers is an elegant
mini-lesson in the subject.  We periodically send brief listserv lessons
to the LIST, even, especially in response to someone's sending an unsub
command to the list.
 
Want to know what happens?  <even more weary sigh>  We'll inevitably get
a REPLY, TO the list, with another listserv command.
 
In other words, there are an awful lot of listmembers who don't bother to
read, or, if they read, don't bother to learn.  (Granted, some do, and
some become right handy in persuading listserv (tm) to grant their
earnest petitions, but that still leaves all of the rest.)
