This is most likely a DNS problem. Here is what you need to do....

First off, you can check the setup of your DNS by using a utility called
nslookup. If you type that in at the command prompt on Win2K, you will get a
fully functional DNS checker =-) It has a help menu and such, so making your
way through it should not be too hard. If you get stuck, try the Microsoft
website for more of an explanation.

Next, you need check out how you are set up as far a DNS and mail routing
goes. Your list should be getting mail in one of two ways. One: mail gets
sent directly to the listserv. or Two: mail is forwarded to you listserv
from your Exchange server using Custom recipients and mail routing. Why is
this important? Because you have to set up something in DNS called an MX
record. If you call your ISP they will be able to do this for you. Here is
how it works....

You already have DNS host records pointing to your websites. These records
change the name of your site(www.Joe.BigGuns.com) into it's appropriate ip
address(66.66.192.111) With mail it is a little more complicated, but to
make a long story short, in order for you mail server to receive the mail,
the MX record must be set up in addition to the host record. If you have
mail going directly to your listserv, an MX record will have to be set up
for both the Exchange server and the Listserv. This is not the same as when
exchange forwards mail going outbound. (just FYI make sure they set your
listserv MX record to a lower "precedence" than your Exchange server. The
HIGHER the number in the MX record the LOWER the precedence.) If you have
your mail forwarding inbound through the exchange server, as well as
outbound, then you do not HAVE to have an MX record for the Listserv server.
(I would highly recommend it though. It saves you from other problems.)

I think that is everything... need anymore help, just let me know.

Subject: Can Someone Please Help Someone New

If you are reading this thank you for your time. I am a little bit over my
head and hope someone could help me.

I have 2 servers running Win2K Advanced Server in my home. One is for MS
Exchange 2000 and the Other hosts my web sites.

I want to set up Listserv lite. I installed the software on my Web Server
so there would not be a conflict with Exchange 2000.

All the computers are on static IP's. I don't know anything about DNS
entries. PacBell hosts my DNS.

Listserv Lite seems to be up and running. I can use the web interface to
add users, and it sends out the emails.

However I cannot seem to email to the list. I get SMTP and DNS errors.

Help please. I have a feeling I am close. I just can't seem determine the
solution on my own.

I am in Los Angeles and would be willing to offer premium beer to anyone
that would like to come and fix this. Or if you know the solution I have
an (800) number and would love for someone to walk me through the steps I
am missing.

Thank you for any help you can provide.
