But that response is contained in the REQACK template, which can be turned off.

Actually, a listowner here *DOES* use .CC &OWNERS with good reason and with
good results.  When we moved to 1.8c the stuff started going to the LISTSERV
maintainer instead.  This was a side effect of enhanced loop detecton and
L-Soft promptly fixed it for us... don't know if that's a general fix or if
it was done just for us.
