I'll swear I've said this before...
 
John, you're running LISTSERV on a unix box, right?  So you have a
site.catalog, etc.  You can't create dynamic filelists on the unix
port of LISTSERV (yet).  What you're trying to do simply will not
work.  See the list owners' manual under the chapter on File Archives.
