unfortunately I have seen several Bitnet/Internet gateways/MTAs that end up
not being able to handle this correctly. In my own experience it has resulted
in the incorrect construction of the From_ header that many MUAs use to
identify as the seperator between mail messages.
There appears to be a lot of finger pointing about who is at fault, but it is
a fact that this action exposes errors in other software.
