Not that I want to argue with you, but surely that's not the point of the
web interface?  If you wanted the web interface to remember what articles
you'd read, then it would be an order of magnitude different (and more
complex to implement, I'd guess).

The question I have for you is why aren't you using the same sort of feature
provided by your mail client?  The web interface, AFAICS, isn't meant as a
replacement for mail - after all, there are other 'web-based' discussion
group solutions out there...
