I'm the owner of the MACCHAT list and I have a small/trivial question
for you listserv gurus.
 
How would one go about getting this Command Confirmation Feature enabled
while a user subscribes to a list.
 
Let me be more elaborate as to what I'm really looking for.
 
Right now my list sends a subscription acceptance to any user
automatically when he/she sends in a request for the same without checking
whether the e-mail address is valid or not. So because of this i end up
getting error-reports from such users whose e-mail address perhaps is not
in a valid form. (cases like UK's addresess which are inverted, *.co
instead of *.com, UUCP sites, those which use sendmail routers and so on
and so forth)
 
What I would really like to do is when a [log in to unmask] sends an
subscription request it should first absorb his e-mail address, then send
him an notice stating his recorded e-mail address and asking him to reply
back an OK command confirmation reply. If he fails to do within 24 hrs,
his request will get terminated. This would really help me in weeding
out some of the invalid reciepients in my list which is over 5500 the last
time i checked and ensure snag-free e-mail delivery.
